The mysterious story of Robert Stafford
who travelled from
Bedlington, Northumberland, England
to America in 1839
Introduction
The Stafford family can trace its roots back no further than an adoption
in the North-East of England in the early 1800's. This person was Robert Stafford,
who travelled to America when in his twenties.
He joined the American Army and had a son and daughter. Robert Stafford's
later life is unclear. He never returned to England and vanished in the American
west.
However, Robert's son (also called Robert Stafford) did return to the North-East
of England to live permanently and his daughter visited England briefly in 1882,
by which time her father was dead.
We don't know any more about the American side of the family (if there is
one) beyond that. We're putting this material onto the World Wide Web to see if
anyone has any more information about this.
